Re-homed Page 2

A chance to have a look at some of the cats that have been re-homed
and find out how they are getting on in their new homes.

Jasmine

Jasmine.

Hello. Just thought we'd let you know that Jasmine has settled in nicely and our existing cat,
Moo, is trying very hard to tolerate her, even when she's whizzing madly around the house!
She is completely bonkers and is very affectionate.
Love her to bits!
X Jill.

Felix1Felix2

Felix.

Hi, we re-homed Felix from you back in September From the first moment we saw her we knew she was the cat for us,
she was so affectionate when we first met her and settled in with us instantly.
She loves attention and gets very annoyed if we don't pay her enough of it, miaowing constantly until we give her a tickle or a cuddle.
Whilst I hope she loves us both the same, she does tend to favour my other half more -
he's the one at home more and over the months he's turned her into a complete softie with all the time and attention he's given her.
She is a very playful cat and often has a mad half hour after eating when she hares from room to room and attacks her toys.
She does love to sleep though - she claimed the bed within a few days of being here and loves to snooze on it day and night.
She loves her food and is very vocal when it's mealtimes - she makes sure we definitely know when she's hungry.
We can't imagine life without her and still find it difficult to understand how someone could abandon her
(on a number of occasions!), but in the grand scheme of things we're glad someone else couldn't live with her
as it meant we have her in our life and she is guaranteed a safe and loving home for the rest of her life.
Vicki and Adam.

Milly1Milly3

Milly (AKA Wookie).

We rehomed Milly (AKA Wookie) from you about a year ago. We originally thought she was about two, but the vet thinks
(on the basis of a distinct lack of teeth!) that she is about 8. However, she definitely doesn't act her age and is very playful,
especially when she is a bit high on cat mint! We wondered why she was called Wookie, and originally thought it was because she was so furry.
However, it soon became apparent that it was due to her incredible cat talking-she sounds just like a wookie!
She is very set in her ways and insists on only the expensive food, and does not tolerate me or my husband sitting on her spot on the
sofa (the spotty cushion in the picture). She loves being brushed but also spends most of her day and night preening herself
-our cream carpets and white bedlinen will never be the same again! Milly ran away within the 1st couple of months of us getting her.
Fortunately due to lots of searching and a very kind lady who spotted her we found her a few blocks away, scared and hiding in a garage.
Hence the rather attractive pink collar she now wears! However, since her time on the streets she's definitely gained some street cred
and despite her small size she will see off any cat that dares enter her garden!
She's the perfect little toothless cat and I'm pleased to have her join us...despite the amount of hair she leaves everywhere!
Keep up the good work,
Clare.

Dinah

Dinah.

Dinah came to live with us a couple of weeks ago.
We had found it so difficult to choose which cat to make our own, but in the end Dinah chose us.
The first few days must have been quite stressful for her,
but she soon settled into a routine of sitting on the windowsill and gazing out at her new garden,
eating everything that was put in front of her and taking on an exhausting exercise regime of washing herself.
The recent 3 day heatwave brought her out of the house, with me securely attached to a lead in case I decided to try and escape.
She now knows her way around her territory.
Dinah has settled in well in a short time and although she was a nervous size zero cat she is now gaining weight by the day.
Her favourite things in life are being hugged and eating. She also loves neck rubs, preferably on the hour every hour.
Amanda.

Charlie

Charlie.

This is Charlie. We adopted him around the beginning of April 2010.
Charlie is the most affectionate cat I have ever met! He is also very playful and loves to chase a laser light.
He is settling in very nicely. He follows me around the house, always coming for nuzzles and cuddles!!
If my son and I sit together, Charlie is never far behind.. He has to be included.
He has been taught to wait at the side until you finish putting his food in his bowl
and he has even recently learned that I do not get up before the alarm goes off.. HA!
Needless to say, as soon as I switch it off he is there on top of me asking me to get up and feed him -haha!
He is a lovely lad and such a sweetie..We love him so very much!!
We can't thank you enough!
Paul, Lindsey and Drew.

George_1sGeorge_2s

George.

This is George, he was rehomed 2 years ago.
He has settled in very well and now thinks he owns the place!
Hope all of the other cats get the homes they deserve.
Sally.

Dessie_1sMarx_1s

Desdemona.                             Marx.

Hi All,                                                                               Hi All,
this should be me looking calm and nonchalant.                         this is me looking soppy as usual!

Hi folks, just a line to let you know that since we left you at (Easter 2009) we have settled well in our home.
The madwoman who took us (and her silly man) are totally under our control.
She was looking at the tharg site today and fell for O'Sheen, she loves Siamese it seems.
Anyway it's not coming here as I will not put up with any competition. My status as boss is paramount here.
Would you believe that I was put on a healthy eating plan after a few months! It was decided that as
I found it hard to jump onto a chair and was a "little" overweight that my favoured Royal Canin was too rich and gave me constipation.
I now have to eat fresh meat or canned food!!! I am, as a result slim, very agile, more healthy and I have a shiny coat, apparently.
The downside for them is that I can now jump on anything no matter how high, fools.
It would appear that Marx is either a genius or has profound learning difficulties, they can't decide which.
He really shows us cats up.
It's almost guaranteed that if he jumps on anything he'll slide off the other side!
Last week the birds were singing at 4.30am, he tried to jump out of the bedroom window to visit with them, again.
It took both man and woman to unhook his claws from their entanglement in the (new) curtains,
he's always getting his claws stuck in something!
My personality has changed considerably since I've been here. I no longer run, hide, hiss, bite and scratch the people in this house,
there's no point as they just take it in their stride.
I go to the vets in a normal cat box and the vet thinks I'm lovely now, she's a fool too.
My best ruse is to gripe and moan, I'm very vocal. It's amazing what results loud whingeing can get you.
This morning after my breakfast I fancied a bit of toast, she loads it with best butter.
Managed to get three small bits off her!
I'm not healthy eating permanently.
we went to the vets, again, last month for our annual boosters and check ups and were both weighed.
Silly vet said we were both the perfect weights for our genders, ages and overall builds!
Woman was very pleased with herself and her healthy eating regime.
I'm 3.55kgs. and Marx is 4.4kgs. Vet also said I was much calmer and pleasant, little does she know, it's all an act.
I still have my moments e.g. when woman talks to Marx or lets him sleep on her knee, I soon see him off.
For some reason he's never around during the night when she goes to bed,
I don't know where he sleeps but I have the man's armchair in the living room at nights now.
I have a large area to patrol so I'll get gone and do the rounds of the garden for a while 'till tea-time.
She's sending a couple of photos of us separately, useless at technology!
Very best wishes to you all especially Bob, from Desdemona and Marx, now 4 and 7 respectively XXX
Speak to you soon, love to all from Desdemona XXX
P.S. The king sized bed is lovely and peaceful! Marx X

Update 23rd August 2011:

Hi All,
Just a line to let you know that we are still both very well and happy since leaving you at Easter 2009
and moving in with the mad woman and silly man.
Marx is now a very confident cat, he no longer catches his claws on anything, is cocky even.
I'm apparently no longer feral. They think this because I've stopped perpetually growling at, biting, scratching them and I don't hide any more.
Too much of my energy is spent controlling and safeguarding the home. I get tired but I still stay awake as long as possible so that I don't miss anything.
We had more annual booster jabs/check-ups with vet woman a few months ago and even she reckons I'm really nice now.
Mad woman and silly man love us very much it seems.
Marx relishes it all and I'm managing to put up with it, for now.
Lots of love to you all at Tharg from Desdemona X

Betty_sTux_Betty_s

     Betty.                           Tux & Betty.

Hi, Here are some pics of Athena and Viki
I've renamed them Tux (as she is always wearing a tuxedo) and Betty as in Ugly Betty.
Hope you don't mind.
They are settling in well and seem to be getting on really well even when Betty goes into full on kitten attack mode.
The pics are taken outside because its been too overcast to take good shots indoors
please don't worry I'm not letting Betty outside unaccompanied & she doesn't get to go further than the yard.
I've ordered a very expensive microchip catflap so that Tux can come and go without letting Betty out until she is older.
Tux is cautiously exploring further each day and she really likes going outside as long as she can bomb it back indoors when she needs to.
Thanks for all your help & advice choosing these two
I'm really enjoying sharing my home with them & going off all the purring, they like being here too.
Carla.

Max_sMax_Lucy_sLucy_s

Max & Lucy.

Hi to all the helpers at the Heatons!
Remember us??! Max and Lucy were rehomed in Nov 2009.
Max and Lucy are brother and sister and were left on the door step to your shop.
Sadly Max lost one eye due to an eye abcess but that hasnt stopped him from getting up to all sorts!
Since they moved out into Disley they have settled in well, taking up such sports as tree climbing and bird watching.
Max wasnt very successful in his first tree climb as he managed to get stuck up a 30-40ft conifer out in the woods.....
a tree surgeon had to scale it to get him down!(he got a big welcome reception when he touched the earth....bless him!)
They are both full of beans and always get up to all kinds of mischief.
They have made lots of friends with fellow cats on our street,
both Lucy and Max will bring in one of their mates to show them round their home!
Keep up the good work that you all do and I hope the other cats are soon settled into a good home.
Lynsey & Martin.

Sydney_SusieSydney_Susie2

Sydney& Susie.

They are both great fun and very entertaining.
Both have settled in well and get on with our other cat, Sally.
Thanks for all your help.
Regards Pom & Phil.

Jasper_sWilson_s

     Jasper.                      Wilson.

Hi, Just wanted to drop you a quick email to let you know how Jasper and Winkie are getting on!
Winkie (now named Wilson) is very brave and has had a good look round everywhere.
He has just come round yesterday to being stroked and loves playing,
eating treats from our hands and follows us from room to room.
(he’s such a softy!)
Jasper absolutely loves attention, with his belly being rubbed he purrs like a tractor!
He is still terrified of any sound though (even us walking in the room)
and jumps behind the sofa peeking at us with his big round eyes until we can eventually coax him out!
Wilson has jumped on him a few times (I think to play as he hasn’t hissed or had his claws out
– this has scared the life out of Jasper but I hope he will come round).
Jasper follows Wilson around and gets a bit jealous, head-butting us to stroke him, if he thinks Wilson is getting all the attention!
– Even though there is two of us!!
The first night they both slept on our bed (Jasper under the covers by my feet – hiding!!
Wilson happily jumped on the end of the bed all by himself)
– now they think it is their room and love to sit on the window ledge watching the world go by!
I think that they are both settling in well – and hopefully Jasper will relax around Wilson a bit more and play!
(He even jumps behind the sofa when we try and play with a bell toy)
Love Libby, Dave, Jasper & Wilson xx

Molly__shoes_s

Molly (previously Fluffy).

We are so happy with our wonderful little girl who we picked up on 18th August from your wonderful rescue centre.
She has settled in brilliantly although one of our other cats is still a little wary of her.
She has gone from 2.9 kilos to 3.9 kilos in three weeks (!!) and loves to eat chicken and dried food.
She is very playful and likes to bite our toes through the quilt on the bed.
She is extremely loving and cuddly and demands a brushing by wowing at you until you pick up the brush.
She had her second vaccination yesterday (8th September) and so will be ready to face the outside world in a week.
Thanks so much to THARG for the fantastic job you do and for introducing us to our Molly.

Smudge1sSmudge2s

Smudge.

Just to let you know Smudge has settled in really well.
His first afternoon was spent hiding behind the blinds because he was really nervous but came out for a little food and to use his new litter tray.
Next day he was a little more daring,
climbing on to our knees for the briefest of cuddles but soon going to hide again.
Within a week, he was ruling the roost with many different "meows" to let us know what he wanted!
The next week saw the weather hotting up and Smudge was chomping at the bit to be allowed to explore his new garden
so we got him a leash and spent time with him sniffing, scratching and exploring.
He was very excited to see birds and meowed with excitement
- then he spotted next doors cat - hmm -
we could tell he wanted to get up close and personal and so had a chat about being neighbourly!!!!
After that he wanted to be out on his own so we knew he wouldn't go too far - he didn't.
He takes great delight in being in the garden, knowing he can come and go as he pleases,
playing with frogs, long stems of grass and anything that moves.
He knows when everyone is due home and is always there to welcome us.
Hes a lovely boy, loves a cuddle and to stretch out on his favourite spot on the settee,
keeping an eye on his new family and tucking into his favourite salmon dinner.
His confidence has grown daily and we all love him to bits.

Rex1Rex2

Juno and Loki.

Hi we re-homed the Devon Rex's Sassy & Mischief (now called Juno and Loki)
They are lovely cats who sleep in our bed every night.
Between them they have broken light fittings, cups, glasses and plates by jumping around.
They steal straws from drinks, make-up brushes and slippers, they also love to unravel the toilet roll and shred it.
These really are amazing and beautiful cats who are obsessed with water.
When we are in the bath they sit on the edge.
Once when my husband was in the bath Loki fell in, this was far more dangerous for my husband than Loki!.
Siobhan.

Little_PhoebePresent_Phoebe

Phoebe.

Hi Just thought I would give you an update on Phoebe for your webpage so her previous owner will know how she is:
We adopted Phoebe in June this year, she was quiet timid at first and absolutely hated to be left alone.
However over the course of a few weeks her confidence grew and she started feeding well and put on over a Kg in weight.
She absolutely loves being outside and as we keep her in at night
as soon as she is let out in the morning she comes back soon after with a present for us,
which is not as bad as it seems as the majority of what she brings are leaves (as can be seen in the attached pic).
Although she has also brought us a couple of worms and a sock.
We absolutely love her to bits and can't now imagine home without her,
she has bags of character and most of the time acts like an overgrown kitten.
We spent a fortune on toys for her only to discover that only thing she ever wants to play with is a bit of string.
Thank you for letting us adopt our beautiful girl and keep up the good work.
Regards, Marianne.

Princess_Charlie_1sPrincess_Charlie_2s

Princess & Charlie.

Here are some photos of Princess and her son Charlie, whom we adopted from you a few months back now.
I just wanted to write to say what a joy they’ve been for mum and they are now well and truly “at home”.
Thank you to all at Heatons Animal Rescue.
With thanks, Gaynor.

Matilda1s

Matilda.

We took Matilda home in February after she had been at the Heatons for a week after her owner died.
She was extremely nervous, and hid in our dining room for the first few days.
She has made great progress, and now roams around the house quite happily,
although she shows no interest in going outside -such a shame as we have a very cat friendly garden!
Matilda - or Tilly as she has now become - is still frightened of strangers, loud noises and plastic bags!
She seems to love us though, and loves to lie close to us -normally across legs in the middle of the night.
We are thinking of looking for another cat as a companion for Tilly, but I m not sure if she would accept it.
We still check out the Heatons website + hope all of the others find good homes.
Megan.

Coco_Brothers_SistersCoco_Mouse

Coco.

I've been meaning to add Coco's story for a while now, so here we go....
On Wednesday 19th August 2009, I lost my beloved 'Purdy Girl' when she was hit by a car and killed. Leaving her brother, Milo behind,
we felt it best not to replace Purdy, but find Milo (my little man) a new friend.
Even in the first few hours after her death, it was clear that Milo was missing his sister.
I began to search the local cat rescue centres on the Internet. Here I came across, The Heatons Animal Rescue Group.
On searching through the Re-Homing page I stumbled upon a profile for a Persian Cat named Coco.
I was immediately taken in by her big blue and needy eyes.
Both Milo and Purdy were Persian, so I wanted another Persian Female and one of a similar age to Milo, and there she was.
It was all too perfect, coincidental even,
as Coco was listed on the site the day her previous owner brought her inn - that date was 19/08/09, the very day my Purdy had died.
After some consideration we decided to visit her. Her story was a sad one.
On our arrival we were told that her previous owner, though she loved Coco dearly,
could no longer take care of her as she was battling cancer and was undergoing treatment.
Myself and my partner approached the cage where Coco sat, oh so bold and proud. She looked at me and let out a little yelp.
She sounded Just like my 'Purdy Girl' and I could not help but burst into tears.
On meeting her, there really was no other option but to take her home that very day.
Coco (or as we like to call her 'The Rocks' or 'Cokey') loves her new home.
We have had her just over a year now and she really is like part of the family. She has a wonderful character and warm nature.
Always makes us laugh. She likes to sunbath in our enclosed garden and drink from the pond.
She can prop herself up against any object and sits like a person, observing the goings on about the room.
She enjoys the company of her adoptive brother and sisters (About 6 months ago we re-homed Ash and Orla and now have 4 cats. I must be mad!)
It's great watching the 4 of them run about the house, playing and chasing each other.
Even at 8 years old she is like a kitten.
She looooves her food! Everyone who meets he is taken back by her size
- She's bigger than most small dogs! The day we collected her I was reluctant to take a large toy mouse from her previous home.
The lady who dealt with us that day said it was her favourite and it would be nice for her to have something familiar to settle her into her now home
- It was the best thing we could have done accepting it.
We call it her "Baby" She likes to rag it about, maul and roll around the room with it. She loves that mouse more then anything.
It's a little grubby now but you will see her with it in the attached picture.
I miss my Purdy Girl every day but it was fate that brought Coco to us.
Thank you THARG for bring Coco into our lives.
To all of you considering re-homing any animal, I would highly recommend that you consider helping the older ones.
They bring so much love and just need a little stability in there twilight years.
Thanks for reading my essay.
Rachel.

Ruby1s

Ruby.

We adopted Ruby from the Heaton sanctuary around two years ago.
When we first met her she was very clingy and had some bald patches on her paws from pulling out her fur when she got stressed.
She had been very well looked after by the sanctuary, especially when she had kittens and needed lots of extra attention!
Two years on Ruby is confident and very assertive, as you can see from the photo she loves the limelight!
She has no more bald patches and is happy and healthy.
We love Ruby and are very grateful to the sanctuary for taking such good care of her.
Thankyou!
Love Hannah, Alan and Ruby

Greebo1sGreebo2s

Greebo.

Hi to everyone at the rescue centre.
As you can see Greebo has settled in nicely and seems to love his new home.
In fact, he is currently asleep on my knee with his head resting on my arm making it very difficult to type!
I wouldn’t budge him for all the money in the world though.
He is still nervous around the boys in the house but I’ve decided that that’s because he’s a mummy’s boy!
He just prefers to come to you as opposed to having you towering over him – quite sensible really!
He’s getting bigger by the day and loves his cuddles.
He sleeps next to me at night and doesn’t get up until I do, which is the one thing my husband is really grateful for
(my other cat used to have a mad half hour at 3a.m. and attack your toes whilst you slept!).
He’s had his injections (he was very brave) and the vet is quite taken with him.
My other cat, Mort, is fine with him unless Greebo has decided he wants to play hide and seek and jumps out from behind corners to scare him.
This involves much hissing! He does also occasionally chase Mort (he’s not really chasing, he just wants to play
but if he catches Mort unaware Mort has a tendency to run and Greebo will follow him all over the house!)
I am so pleased you found Greebo for me.
I love him very much, and he seems pretty taken with me too.
This is one very happy family!
Thanks again!
Kate Robinson and family.
